Unhoused Homies Donor Privacy & Stewardship Policy
Last updated: [Insert Date]
At Unhoused Homies, trust is everything. If you’re willing to invest in our work, we owe you clarity, honesty, and respect—especially when it comes to your personal information and your donations.
This policy explains how we collect, use, protect, and honor information about our donors and supporters.
This applies to all donations and interactions with Unhoused Homies, whether they happen online, by mail, in person, at events, or through third-party platforms.
1. Our Promise to Donors
When you support Unhoused Homies, we commit to:
Protecting your personal information and giving history
Using your information only to do our work and communicate with you
Never selling, renting, or trading your information
Respecting your preferences about how and if we contact you
Honoring your wishes about recognition and anonymity
We take your trust seriously. No games, no hidden sharing, no selling your data.
2. Information We Collect
We only collect information that helps us process your gift, stay in touch with you, and strengthen our relationship. This can include:
Name and preferred name for acknowledgements
Mailing address and billing address
Email address and phone number
Donation amounts and dates
Recurring gift details (if applicable)
Event registrations and attendance
Communication preferences
Notes about your connection to Unhoused Homies (for example: volunteer, business partner, or how you heard about us)
We do not intentionally collect personal information from children under 13.
3. How We Use Donor Information
We use donor information to:
Process donations and issue tax receipts
Thank you and let you know how your support is making an impact
Send updates about Unhoused Homies programs, campaigns, and events
Invite you to give, volunteer, or engage if you’ve chosen to hear from us
Maintain accurate records for accounting and legal compliance
Plan our fundraising and outreach efforts responsibly
We keep your information focused on one thing: furthering the mission of Unhoused Homies.
4. What We Don’t Do
Unhoused Homies:
Does not sell, rent, or trade donor lists or personal information
Does not share your personal information with other organizations for their fundraising or marketing
Does not send you mailings on behalf of other nonprofits or companies
If we ever use a service provider (for example, a secure payment processor, email service, or mailing house), they only get the minimum information needed to do their job and are not allowed to use it for their own purposes.
5. Donor Recognition & Anonymity
We are grateful for every donation and may, at times, recognize donors in publications, impact reports, or online.
You are always in control of how you’re recognized:
You may request to be listed as “Anonymous”
You may ask that your gift amount not be disclosed
You may opt out of public recognition entirely
If you want to change how you’re recognized, contact us and we’ll update your preferences going forward.
6. Online Giving & Payment Security
When you donate online or through a digital platform:
Payments are processed by secure, reputable third-party processors
We use appropriate encryption and security measures to protect payment data
Unhoused Homies does not store full credit card or bank account numbers in our internal systems
Access to donor-related financial information is limited to staff who need it to process gifts, resolve issues, or meet legal and accounting requirements.
Even with strong safeguards, no system is 100% risk-free, so we encourage donors to protect their own accounts and devices and to contact us if something looks suspicious.
7. Communication Preferences & Opting Out
We want our communication to feel respectful, not relentless.
You have the right to:
Decide how we contact you (email, mail, phone, text—where applicable)
Decide how often we contact you
Unsubscribe from fundraising appeals or newsletters
Ask us to stop contacting you altogether, except for receipts or legally required notices
When you update your preferences or ask us to stop contacting you, we will make the change as quickly as reasonably possible and honor it going forward.
8. Accessing & Updating Your Information
You may request to:
See what contact information we have on file
Correct or update your address, email, phone, or name
Update your recognition or communication preferences
To do this, just reach out using the contact information at the bottom of this policy. We may verify your identity before making changes to protect your privacy.
9. How Long We Keep Donor Information
We keep donor records as long as needed to:
Maintain accurate financial and tax records
Comply with laws, audits, and reporting requirements
Understand our giving history over time and plan responsibly
When certain data is no longer needed for any legal, financial, or operational purpose, we’ll remove or securely dispose of it.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, technology, or legal requirements.
The “Last updated” date at the top will show when we last revised it
If we make significant changes, we may also share an update on our website or through email
Your continued engagement with Unhoused Homies after any update means you accept the revised policy.
