UNHOUSEDHOMIES

Board of Directors

Buy a pair of socks. Give a pair of socks. Show up for our unhoused neighbors in Minnesota.

As the work grows, so does the responsibility. The Board of Directors is the group that makes sure Unhoused Homies isn’t just a good idea with a nice logo—but a stable, accountable nonprofit that can keep showing up year after year.

Our board is made up of volunteer leaders with backgrounds in community work, finance, nonprofit operations, social services, and lived experience with housing instability. Together, they help protect the mission, the organization, and the people we serve.

Why We Have a Board

The Board of Directors exists to provide oversight, stability, and protection. Specifically, the board is here to:

Keep the mission on track

Making sure everything we do stays rooted in serving people experiencing homelessness with dignity, respect, and consistency—not chasing trends or distractions.

Guard the organization’s health

Watching the big picture: risk, growth, sustainability, and legal/financial obligations so the work doesn’t fall apart behind the scenes.

Protect donor and community trust

Ensuring that funds, partnerships, and programs are handled in a way that is transparent, ethical, and aligned with our values.

What the Board Does

The Board of Directors is not running day-to-day outreach. That’s the job of the Unhoused Homies team.
The board’s role is high-level governance and direction, including:

Setting Direction

Approving major goals, long-term plans, and the overall path for Unhoused Homies as we grow and expand our impact

Financial Oversight

Reviewing budgets and financial reports, tracking how donations are used, and confirming that we can afford what we commit to.

Policy & Accountability

Approving key policies (like donor privacy, outreach practices, and internal controls) and making sure we operate within nonprofit laws and ethical standards.

Evaluating Impact

Looking at metrics like the number of socks given out, areas served, and new partnerships—so decisions are based on real data, not guesses.

Supporting Leadership

Providing guidance and accountability for the organization’s leadership, helping them make major decisions with a strong backing behind them.
